Nearly two dozen people have been injured in an elevator accident Wednesday morning in Chelsea.
The FDNY said 21 people have been taken to Bellevue and Beth Israel Hospitals to be evaluated for neck and back injuries. One person was not hospitalized.
It happened at the Bed, Bath and Beyond on 6th Avenue near 18th Street. Authorities say the freight elevator dropped three floors to the ground around 7:00 a.m.
“The elevator it fell down, that’s it,” a man injured in the accident said. “It felt like we were jumping.”
The Buildings Department will inspect the elevator and try to figure out what caused it to fall.
why didnt they just jump a bit up before it hits the ground?
ReplyDeleteComing from an engineering student, stuff like this should never happen. Either some engineer or some maintenance worker needs to be fired.
ReplyDeleteOne of my fears :( Getting trapped in an elevator with people for hours and hours. Suppose getting killed it worse though.
ReplyDeleteOh god, that's my worst fear.
ReplyDeleteThat would be terrifying.
ReplyDelete3 floors...ew...
ReplyDeleteThis, ladies and gentlemen, is why a horror movie about a rogue elevator exists.
ReplyDeleteGod, I can't imagine much worse than that, what a horrifying experience.
ReplyDeleteholy shit, you never hear stuff like this. All 21 of them must have been treated on scene for severely pooped pants
ReplyDeleteA suicidal elevator that tried to take out some people with it. What has this world come to?
ReplyDeletecrazy, here is a fun factoid...there hasn't been one death from an elevator falling.
ReplyDeleteTerrifying.
ReplyDeleteWhy were there 21 people in the freight elevator? Correct me if I am wrong but a freight elevator doesn't nearly have the same safety measures as a personnel elevator!
ReplyDeleteNo shit!
ReplyDeletedamn! that is some scary shit :/ worst situation ever
ReplyDeleteShit like this is my worst nightmare, stuck in an elevator whilst falling ahhhhhhhh :(
